Introduction

The use of TikTok is also dependent on the age groups, just like the other social media platforms. Most tiktokers are sixteen to twenty-four years, with sixty percent (Yang, Zhao & Ma,2019). From twenty-six to forty-four, there is only a medium range of users, that is twenty-six percent. Although there are quite many adults adopting TikTok, there is only a small percentage of the user base aged forty and above years. The relationship between the app and people is dependent on their age group. Tiktok is a social app that enables its users to make short videos. It was created and launched in 2016 by the Chinese company Bytedance.

Modern Luddites have invented machines in the form of computer viruses and others to disrupt the technologies troubling them (Wolnicki & Piasecki,2019). The Luddites opposed revolution due to its negative effects on the people, such as child labor. As a result of these negative impacts, they fought against what they believed was unjust.

The Luddites people violently opposed the technological changes, including social media, because they thought they would worsen their lives more due to the new market system. Social media has a negative impact on humanity because of its association with cyberbullying and cyber abuse from anonymous online users, which might lead to issues of self-esteem and even depression.

Social media reflects people’s daily lives as it is mostly used to provide information and entertainment. However, social media platforms offer opportunities for people to nurture their talents; it’s not a safe place for young ones and other people. There are a lot of cases of cyberbullying, which drives people to depression. The platforms should be used appropriately.

Conclusion

Social media has both positive and negative effects on its users, especially the young ones who are at the risk of being exposed to harmful data. Parents should adopt parental control measures to ensure that they do not watch and listen to damaging content. There should also be restrictions on what is sent and received online for young ones.

The Luddites intended to destroy and avoid technological innovation because they believed technology was just another way of deceiving and conducting criminal acts. They intended to object mainly to the increasing popularity of textile equipment. They feared losing their jobs because their skills would no longer be needed as the machines were invented.
