Similarly, with violence and harassment in workplaces many nurses tend to leave the profession and pursue other careers.
Over the past years, research shows that workplace harassment and violence has increased sharply (Pai et al., 2018). Ostensibly, this has caused health related issues such as depression, stress and other mental problems. Moreover, the unhealthy work conditions have resulted into many nurses leaving the profession. Unfortunately, the productiveness of the nurses equally go down.

Physical abuse to nurses affects them mentally. Additionally excess fatigue may in many times be as a result of workplace harassment and violence.

It is therefore prudent for the government and the legislators to offer support in terms of funding programs that would help eradicate workplace violence and harassment of nurses.
Generally, the government and the law makers are in a position to greatly change the state or conditions of nurses at workplace.
Notably, workplace violence and harassment are against the codes and ethics of practice as in the constitution.
It is important for the government to support programs that protect the rights of nurses. Acts of sexual harassment that nurses face should be condemned and avoided (Ross et al. 2019). Additionally, legislators are at a key position of enforcing new and stricter rules to handle workplace harassment and violence. Thus, it is important that healthy work codes and ethics be practiced.

Additionally, through the support of the government as well the legislators, there will be more laws enforced in regard to workplace practices and ethics.
Lobbying the government and the legislators would help eradicating the unhealthy practices.
In summary, it is important for the government and the legislators to take the frontline in fighting against workplace harassment and violence to nurses. Additionally, more care should be taken when dealing with mentally ill patients in psychiatric departments (Kontilla et al.,2020). When the safety of nurses is ensured, increased productivity is guaranteed. Thus, it is prudent to ensure that nurses are provided with healthy work environment for their general wellbeing.
