Assignment Criteria
IMPORTANT: If the instructions from WA #5 have a SafeAssign match with your

be substantially different from WA #1 to qualify for grading.
1.1 Write instructions for Judy Jetson, who comes from the year 2062 and is used to “aerocars,” so
that she can appropriately and successfully complete the task of filling the gas tank of your
car. Work within these conditions:
 You drive to the gas station and park the car next to the pump, so Judy does not need any
instruction regarding those actions.

Judy will use regular gasoline.

Judy will use the hands-free lever on the pump handle that automatically pumps the gas.

Judy will pay with your credit card at the pump and print a receipt.

Judy will fill the tank until the pump stops. (No “topping off” the tank.)

• Understands the basic concept of personal transportation vehicles but has never been to a
gas station as that is not part of the futuristic space culture from which she came, and she
has never been around land-based cars.

1.2 Use information provided in class, as well as the “Worksheet for Preparing Instructions” on
page 260 of your textbook, to guide the creation of your instructions.
1.3 Use the attached grading guide, as well as the “Worksheet for Evaluating Instructions” on
page 261 of your textbook, for expectations regarding the content and appearance of the

 Visual aids are an expectation and must be appropriately referenced, captioned, cited,

Captioned means there is a brief description under the visual aid so the reader understands
the visual aid without having to find the description in the report: “Figure 1 Windshield
Cited means you give the source of the visual aid: “Figure 1 Windshield wiper
Presented appropriately means the visual aid is in a convenient and logical location, is
clear, easy to understand, is not too small or large, etc.
1.5 Include your first and last names in the upper right-hand corner of every page.
1.6 Field test your instructions! Find someone who is not a subject matter expert (SME) (or someone
willing to pretend they are not an SME).
In a separate Word document, write your instructor a block style letter with mixed punctuation,
complete with addresses with your reflection regarding the differences between WA #1 and WA #5
as well as how you write now, in general. As always, each topic of discussion will require a separate
paragraph using the S-E1-E2 technique.
2.1 Discuss any 3 DRAG elements (mix and match) that you handled differently in WA #5
compared to WA #1:
